Join the club
Our Learn to Row Sessions: Rowing is extremely good for your physical and mental health and it can be great fun too - on and off the water! Our six week "learn to row" courses and taster sessions will get you started and then you will progress to the "Improvers" section. You'll soon be able to confidently book yourself onto a row via our online booking system and enjoy the benefits of rowing. If you take to it like a duck to water and have a competitive streak, then you can work your way up to be be considered for squad (competitive rowing). But many members just enjoy the exercise, being on the water in the fresh air - and the socialising.
We've got a dedicated team of members who look after new rowers from Day 1 and with crews of 6 rowers per boat, you'll be in a small friendly group right from the start. Please use the following link: New Rower Form, or contact us via newrowerswrc@gmail.com
Have you rowed with another club and are keen to row for Weymouth ?
Make sure that you let us know if you have any previous rowing experience. If you wish to join the competitive squads, we'll be able to to put you in touch with one of our squad captains who can assess whether you are ready to join them or the intermediate section. You will need to be able to train on and off the water, at least 3 times a week from late March until October and just a little less during the winter months.
Fees
Your first session is free as a "taster session" and then £5 for each learn to row session. If you decide to join the club the adult membership fee is £240 a year (or £20 a month). Youth membership (age 16 t0 21) is £30 a year, junior memberhip (age 11 to 16) is £15 a year.
Fitness
Ideally, you'll be able to swim fully clothed for at least 50 metres and be reasonably fit and well. You'll be asked to confirm this on your membership and medical form if you join the club. But we are inclusive and if you have health or ability issues we'll accommodate them if it's at all possible and consistent with safety. Don't worry if you are not such a good swimmer or can't swim at all - you will be asked to wear one of our lifejackets.
What to expect...
Each hand crafted wooden boat (gig) costs in excess of £30,000 and has a set 6 oars worth about £500 each, so you can see why are boats and equipment are so special to us and why we need to look after them. During your first session you will learn the rules of handling the boats and equipment safely and carefully, without damage to you or to the gear. You will also learn about rowing etiquette, procedure and terminology. Don't worry, it takes a while to remember everything and we've all been in the same boat (if you'll excuse the pun). Once you are on the water, you'll be in safe hands with one of our qualified coxons. Usually another more experienced club member sits in with new rowers on their first outing.
TO REGISTER INTEREST PLEASE DON'T USE THE FORM BELOW. USE THIS INSTEAD: NEW ROWERS FORM.
